Answer

In short, subject librarians help library users with their research needs--both general and subject-specific. For example, they can direct you to relevant sources—such as articles and books—and show you tips for effectively navigating catalogs and databases.

  • Check the list of subject librarians to find which ones are most relevant for your needs.
  • You can ask to meet with a subject librarian at the Olin Library Help Desk or at the circulation desks at the different departmental libraries.
  • Or, you can make schedule a time to meet with the first available librarian using the librarian appointment calendar.

Since subject librarians have expertise in both their subject areas and in finding information, they can help you with subject-specific and more general questions too!

They assist students, faculty, and staff; purchase materials for the libraries collections; teach classes about how to use library resources; and, maintain online Research Guides to direct you to relevant resources. They can also meet with you, virtually or in-person, for your individual research questions.

For an overview of the research process, you can also check the Conducting Research Guide.
